Cinegael Buffalo, a program of riverrun, inc., was founded in 2004 to bring to Buffalo outstanding film from and about Ireland. Cinegael works with its partners in Dublin and with other Irish film series in Montreal, Boston, and San Francisco to import films not otherwise available in Buffalo. Cinegael hosts an annual multiple day film series in mid-June, in conjunction with Buffalo Bloomsday, and hosts other film events through the year.

Films have included classic and rare documentaries like Cannes winner Rocky Road to Dublin, 2006 Irish film awards best documentary The Private World of John Mcgahern, Hugo award winner Waiting for Beckett, and Following James Joyce, Dublin to Buffalo, about the life of James Joyce and the world's greatest archive of his work, in Buffalo, NY. Films are accompanied by lectures and discussion led by scholars and filmmakers. Films also include new Irish commercial cinema, including Bloom (2004), The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Palme d'Or Cannes, 2006, Once, Sundance award winner and winner Academy Award for Best Song, 2007.
